November 2015 - March* 2019

Definition: A "Find" is something that puts a result beneath the widget. It does not, at this time include actions that put a product directly into the cart - Cart Quick Adds and Reprice from My Orders (aka Order History) - although we recognize each of these two actions could reasonably be construed as a type of find.

  • Widget searches dominate customer searches.
  • CE's search strategies are a little more diverse, with Godzilla and search bar searches combined accounting for roughly the same proportion as their widget searches.
  • A drop off in the proportion of search bar searches for both groups appears to coincide roughly with launch of enhanced search in July 2017.
  • Neither customers nor CE retrieve saved items very often, though not surprisingly, customers make more use of it than CE.
  • Customers are making even less use of Godzilla.**

*March data incomplete - just a couple of weeks.

**Godzilla Finds are derived from "Show Me" clicks (which opens the Godzilla popup); these clicks do not necessarily result in a Find as defined above. Only clicking "Saved Item" or "Saved Item (Reprice)" from the popup constitute Finds. Clicking other links from the popup, like "Active Cart." or closing the popup without taking action, do not constitute Finds. We are looking into whether these clicks can be tracked more granularly.

We’re thinking of redesigning the widget. Before we pull it apart, I’d like better insight into how people find their items today.

Basic product finding

I define a “find” as anything that puts results into the space below the widget. The options consist of:

  1. Making widget selections and clicking Find.
  2. Typing in search box and selecting suggestion or clicking magnifying glass.
  3. Retrieval of a MOD quote from Saved Items – count & pct of total.
  4. Retrieval of a stock item from Saved items.
  5. Selection of a “Godzilla” match (must be preceded by one of the search types above, if exact match is a MOD).

For all of these, I’d like data broken down by customer, CE, total of both.

Drill into search box searches

Break these down further by what the user typed:

  • Keyword(s) only
  • Part number only
    • Laddawn part number
      • Stock
      • MOD
    • Customer part number (note - in some cases, it may be hard to tell these apart from keywords and dimensions - that's OK? Or depending on source of data, IT may be able to positively ID customer part numbers. Not sure.)
  • Dimensions only
  • Combination of any of the above

And what they got in return for find types 1-5.

  • Exact match
    • Stock?
    • Fresh MOD?
    • Numbered MOD?
  • Broad result set
  • Need <fill in the blank>? We've got that... (bla bla)
  • Your search for "<what you typed>" returned no results... (bla bla)
  • Sorry, your search returned no matching items.

Advanced product finding

Break down items placed in carts by method of find. This should include all Find methods above plus:

  • Quick Add (add Laddawn stock items from within Cart)
  • The "Reprice" feature (from order history, you can add previously ordered items to your cart)

And/or (question) break down items ordered by method of find?

Correlate types of finds not just with 'put in cart' but saves and shares from results??? Jeff?
