Laddawn.com : Stored freight accounts and ship via and ship pay (FOB) preferences

Draft in progress (lightbulb)

Definitions

Freight is prepaid (PPD) when stock is over $500 (free freight), or when freight is included on MOD quote (freight included).

Freight is not prepaid when:

  • Stock order is below $500.
  • MOD order where freight was not included in quote.

Payment options when freight is not prepaid

  • Prepay & add (P&A): Laddawn pays carrier and adds freight cost to distributor's invoice. This is the default if no preference is expressed.
  • Collect (COL): Laddawn relays an account number and the distributor's billing address to the carrier; the carrier bills the recipient; Laddawn's invoice to distributor is just for cost of goods.
  • Third party bill (3PB): Laddawn relays an account number and third party billing address (often though not always a dropship address) to the carrier; the carrier bills the recipient; Laddawn's invoice to distributor is just for cost of goods.

Defaults and preferences that override them

Stock over $500MOD quoted as freight included (default way of quoting)
Stock less than $500MOD quoted without freight included (could be a preference unto itself or selected on a case by case basis)
Shipping paid by (aka within Laddawn as FOB code)Prepaid - free freightPrepaid - freight included

Default

  • P&A (prepay & add): Laddawn pays carrier and adds freight cost to distributor's invoice. This is the default if no preference is expressed.

Overrides - can be set bill-to wide, or by specific ship to

  • COL (collect): Laddawn relays an account number and the distributor's billing address to the carrier; the carrier bills the recipient; Laddawn's invoice to distributor is just for cost of goods.
This option requires an account and an address?
  • 3PB (third party bill): Laddawn relays an account number and third party billing address (often though not always a dropship address) to the carrier; the carrier bills the recipient; Laddawn's invoice to distributor is just for cost of goods.
This option requires an address; there is an optional field for an account.  There are 16 000/3PB comments, all of which reference an account #.
Ship via

Best way with exclusions allowed*

Carrier type depends on size of order; orders over $500 can be large enough for LTL.

Best way with exclusions allowed*

  • Best way with exclusions allowed*
  • Specific carrier (limit list to small package carriers? most orders under $500 would be small package carriers - i.e. UPS, FedEx, DHL)
  • Best way with exclusions allowed*
  • Specific carrier (limit list to LTL carriers?)

* "Don't ship via" exclusions can only be set by CE. They can be set on a global bill to basis, or on a ship to basis.

When set, the automated carrier selection program excludes these carriers for the customer. (There were thirty 000 comments still on file which we deleted because they are how handled in this program.

There are 27 customers with an 000 comment indicating a "ship only via" preference.

Stock

  • Assumption: All distributors prefer free freight when stock is over $500.
  • When stock is below $500 - always or primarily (?) small package shipments:
    • If no freight payment preference is expressed, our default is P&A, Ship via - Best Way (we decide carrier). Some distributors express a preference for a particular carrier which overrides Best Way.
    • If a freight payment preference is expressed, it is for either COLL and 3PB. Both methods require an account with a carrier, and therefore, imply a ship via preference. For example:

his freight payment methods imply a ship via carrier preference - typically UPS or FedEx. In very few cases, another carrier such as DHL.
  • Some distributors prefer to quote MOD without freight included. (If no such preference is expressed, our default is to quote freight included.)

    • Some distributors have a preferred payment method and carrier type
