Background, scope, goals
Streamline our nested menu and make the selection of different "flavors" of the same bag more intuitive by presenting choices in more digestible chunks and illustrating the options with pictures.
Priority 1, poly mailers
Priority 2, lip & tape: Move bag type (permanent, resealable), materials (LDPE, Polypro, Postal Approved) and lip size, out of the nested menu. Move bag type and lip size into the "bag builder" panel. Illustrate the bag types and the component parts. Use materials menu for materials.
Priority 3, wicketed bags: Update wicketed "bag builder" to move construction (LF/BG) and materials (LDPE/Polypro) into the panel, to be consistent and further streamline the nested menu. (This and 3a below can be peeled off into a separate project if necessary.)
Priority 3a (nice to have but not critical): Update static drawings to reflect choices for bag release and card board header. Update drawings to better reflect what they're illustrating (eg bottom gusset). Note: we're not attempting to have the drawings reflect dimensions of bag or lip size, gusset depth, etc.; we're not trying to replicate the print designer.
Future projects outside of the scope of this project: Move poly mailer bag type and lip size out of nested menu into bag builder. Eliminate polypro LF/GUfrom nested menu? (Requires research.)
Before you get too far with any particular design approach: How many lip and tape stock and custom bags do customers order by bag type, materials and lip size? Printed/not printed? How many wicketed bags do customers order by construction (LF/BG), materials, and lip size? Printed/not printed?
I. Technical specifications
What are the unintended consequences of our choices?
For example: Need to ensure that keyword searches for stock categories will still work without them being in the nested menu. Work with JP to figure out how that would work. For instance, if we remove Lip & Tape > Resealable > Polypro > 1.5" lip from the nested menu, can the user still type "Resealable Lip & Tape Polypro" in the search box, and get "Resealable Polypropylene Lip & Tape Bag, 1.5” Lip (Standard)" as a matching suggestion; when they choose that suggestion, can this still be "run through the widget" to get our 10 stock offerings, if type (resealable), material (polypro) and lip size (1.5") are no longer in the nested menu, but instead in the bag builder and materials menu?
Work with Judy, John and Bill, sooner rather than later to discuss approaches and to identify questions that they will need to have answered about catalog codes and such.
II. User interface changes
This is where you will put, or link to, your designs - starting with rough drafts and progressing through to final UI.
III. QA requirements
IV. Change managment and rollout planning
Creative brief?
Internal training and preparation?
Coordinated with marketing campaign?
