Laddawn.com : Restatement and revision of saving philosophy

We still want users to have to take an affirmative action regarding preservation of their search results (versus the way it worked on the former website, where the equivalent of today's MOD items were all automatically saved).

The first time you create a made demand item, you must save it, share it, or add it to a cart, to preserve its makeup. The act of saving also creates the MOD's first price (quote).  Happening today.

After that, if you make any changes in the widget or in the cart, which solely affect the quote - such as a change to zip code, quantity, freight terms or price breaks - we will automatically save your change.

If you make these changes in the widget while working on a live quote, we will not presume to know whether your intention is to revise your current quote or create a new quote; on the first of these changes, we will ask with a prompt.  We will then automatically save either the revised quote or the new quote in your pricing history (after each quote change, if there is more than one).

  • Changes revising the quote are automatically being saved today, even though under the old philosophy, they weren't supposed to.
  • Changes creating a new quote are not automatically being saved today; this is what will need to change.
  • We need to modify the prompt to remove the statement about needing to save, and replace it with one about not needing to save.

If you change quantity, zip code, freight terms or price breaks in the Cart, we will assume your intention is to revise your current quote. We will automatically save the revised quote in your pricing history. Happening today.

If you spin off a new price - by using item # find, or choosing reprice from pricing history, Godzilla, or the Cart, your new quote will automatically be saved.  Happening today.

If you make a change to the item's makeup - dimensions, level 3 menus, count - we will either spin off either a fresh, unnumbered MOD, or swap in an existing MOD that happens to match your revised widget/results settings.

  • If it's an un-numbered MOD, you will have to save, share or add to cart to preserve it. Happening today.
  • if it is a different, numbered MOD, it will have a new price, that will autosave. Happening today?

Do we want to keep it  as simple as this, or do we want to have the "one-quote" exception agreed to Thurs? (Keep the MOD number when there's only one quote...) Although that appealed to me initially, it seems to me to perpetuate the inconsistent handling of MODs and quotes. I am in a simplifying mood. What say you all to eliminating the one-quote exception?

NEW POP-UP BOX LANGUAGE

From Owen (2/22/16):

The original text ("Like the result?  Save, share or add to cart.") was included because we thought it likely that people might assume their result would be saved, only to not be able to find it later on.  While we cold add text to let them know that it will not be saved (version 3 below), I believe that this text would not be helpful. Let's go with version 2 (no text re: saved or not saved).  Furthermore, let's remove the bullet point before "Would you like to" - it's not needed (there is no second bullet point and so it just adds noise to the page.

Current Version:                                                                                   Version 2 (Let's use this approach):                                                  Version 3 (no need for this text...):
