Background
Customers select "Trucker" as a carrier when they do not want to use one the carriers from our list. Most of these orders are placed with special comments instructing us who to notify when the order is ready to be picked up - it could be the purchaser, a shipping manager, the carrier they want to use, or a logistics company. Getting these comments on orders and acting on them requires a series of manual workarounds. The comments should include the name of the carrier, but often they don't, because the customer does not want to choose one until they have shipping details like weight and pallet count.
Objectives
- Provide more consistent, controlled way to capture name of carrier/logistics companies on Trucker orders.
- Provide more efficient means to capture instructions for what to do when Trucker not provided at time of order placement.
- Reduce CE workflows and handoffs between Shipping and CE
Solution: Modify Ship Via Pop-up
After "Trucker" is chosen under Via, new trucker name, contact, and email fields appear below the menu (followed by shipping account number and address lines).
Note: We should disable Trucker as a choice when payment method is prepay & add (add shipping charges to my invoice). It is currently allowed today, but Leo says that it should not be.
Field rules are as follows:
- If no Trucker name is entered, then email address field is required. Here is the error message:

- Contact name is optional.
- Email will be validated for either email address or phone number. (We want to steer users to email, but offer a "backdoor" way to enter a phone number.) Here is the error message:

Pickslips

Pickslips will print information entered above as follows ***AS AN INTERNAL COMMENT:
Trucker: <Trucker name>; Laddawn Warehouse Manager: Please contact <person to contact> at <email address or phone> when order is ready.
If there's no trucker and/or no person to contact, it will look like this with "(blank)" in parentheses printed:
Trucker: (blank); Laddawn Warehouse Manager: Please contact (blank) at mike@crownpackaging.com when order is ready.
Procedural note: Previously, if the contact noted in the comment belonged to the carrier or logistics company, then Shipping would reach out directly when the order was ready, but if the contact indicated on the order was at the distributorship, Shipping would forward these on to CE to handle the "your order is ready" communication. When this change is implemented Shipping will call all contacts directly, regardless of who they work for.
Shipping notifications
Shipping notifications will be sent to the person(s) specified on the order after the order has shipped in Clippership, at the end of the day along with other shipping notifications.
