Per Jerry, we have some issues with the current 'custom' logic for Stock Mattress Bags and Furniture Bags:

  1. Furniture Bags - we rarely vent furniture bags, but when we do, production needs inches from 'top' and 'bottom', not 'side' and 'bottom'.  Today this is handled manually and isn't a huge issue.  Jerry will provide calculations for Random Venting and User Specified Venting.
  2. Stock Mattress Bags - per Jerry, these are always Random Venting along center of bag, although our catalog shows specific calculations.

Email From Jerry Howe 12/4/12:

Venting on furniture bags is a different animal.

Venting specs must tell production to vent from the top or bottom (or both) of the bag rather than from the sides.

  • We should keep the same 2 inch minimum from the top or bottom (as we do for the sides on a bottom seal bag).
  • We can do rows from the top or bottom or both with the same 2 inch minimum space between holes.
  • The starting point should be from one of the sides. Not the bottom.

Vented, 10 holes, 2 inches from top and bottom, starting 4 inches from the side, every 12 inches.

Agreed, let’s put this right on the top of that phase ii list.  Owen

Since 11/1/11, I found only 12 orders for ‘vented’ furniture bags.  So I’m guessing that we don’t want to worry about the fact that we need the inches from top/bottom for FURN vs. side/bottom for BAGS. Save this for Phase II ?

Venting on mattress bags.

On page 45 of the catalog, there are specific vent locations stated for the stock mattress bags that we do not use, and do not want to use since this would require more set up time and scrap. I think we would want to keep the stock mattress bags as truly random venting. Currently, we try to center the butterfly holes in the gussets, and place them every 10-15 inches down the length of the bag.
